The senior Hamas leader Sami Abu Zuhri confirmed to Reuters that the movement accepted the UN Security Council's ceasefire resolution, including withdrawal and captive exchange, and is ready to negotiate details.

The US administration now faces a real test to fulfill its commitments by ensuring the Israeli Occupation adheres to the immediate ceasefire as mandated by the Security Council resolution, Abu Zuhri added.

Earlier, Hamas welcomed the Security Council's resolution for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza and complete withdrawal from the territory. Hamas emphasized the importance of exchange and reconstruction, the return of displaced people to their homes, rejecting any demographic changes or reduction of Gaza's area, and ensuring the delivery of necessary aid to the residents.

In a brief statement on Telegram, Hamas expressed its readiness to cooperate with mediators for indirect negotiations on implementing these principles.

The Security Council adopted the US-backed resolution calling for a ceasefire in Gaza and unconditional implementation of the deal. The resolution was approved with 14 votes in favor and one abstention.

US Ambassador to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield stated that Washington continues to urge Tel Aviv to take all measures to protect civilians in Gaza after 247 days of aggression by the Israeli Occupation.

She acknowledged before the Security Council that families in Gaza are struggling to find food and education, and the elderly lack medicine. She added that Tel Aviv agreed to the proposed deal, which paves the way for a political settlement.
