Dr. Hassan Mumani, Professor of International Relations and Conflict Resolution, stated that the "Emergency Humanitarian Response in Gaza" conference held in Jordan represents a key component of the ongoing Jordanian and regional efforts to address the situation in Gaza.

During an exclusive interview with "Roya" on Tuesday, Mumani explained that the conference aims to alleviate the immense humanitarian burden on Gaza residents due to the Israeli Occupation's relentless aggression for over eight months.

He emphasized the necessity of institutionalizing international efforts within specific frameworks to address urgent issues such as delivering humanitarian aid to Gaza and establishing a forward-looking plan that would lay the foundation for Gaza's reconstruction once a permanent ceasefire is achieved.

Israeli Occupation faces moral and political exposure

Mumani highlighted the special role of Jordan and Egypt in the Palestinian cause, noting their significant influence in the regional arena. He told "Roya" that Jordan has a long history of political engagement and has played a crucial role in mobilizing international efforts to achieve a ceasefire since the outbreak of the situation in Gaza.

Mumani stated that the Israeli Occupation has faced moral and political exposure during its current aggression on Gaza, both from global public opinion and international courts such as the International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Court. He pointed out that the Israeli Occupation ultimately cannot continue its defiance indefinitely against the international pressure calling for an end to the aggression. He affirmed that the international community must persist in its attempts to stop these crimes.

UNRWA amidst the Occupation’s assault

Mumani assured "Roya" that the Emergency Humanitarian Response Conference in Gaza does not pose any significant threat to the work of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA). He said, "The Israeli Occupation and the United States are pressuring to end UNRWA's operations, while Jordan supports it in every possible way."

He added, "UNRWA alone cannot rebuild Gaza," noting that "other structures and various entities will contribute to this effort."

What is the Emergency Humanitarian Response Conference?

The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, in cooperation with the Arab Republic of Egypt and the United Nations, is hosting the "Emergency Humanitarian Response in Gaza" conference today, Tuesday.

The conference, held at the King Hussein Bin Talal Convention Centre at the Dead Sea, includes the participation of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who is on a regional tour promoting a Gaza ceasefire, UN Humanitarian Coordinator Martin Griffiths, along with leaders, heads of governments, and international humanitarian and relief organizations. The aim is to "identify ways to enhance the international community's response to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza."

According to the conference program, co-organized by Jordan, Egypt, and the UN, the morning session will include "three working groups" focusing on providing humanitarian aid to Gaza based on needs, overcoming challenges in delivering aid and protecting civilians, and setting early recovery priorities.

In the evening session, His Majesty King Abdullah II will deliver Jordan's address, followed by speeches from Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, UN Secretary-General António Guterres, and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.
