His Majesty King Abdullah II awarded the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) the Order of Independence, First Class, in recognition of its continuous efforts in providing humanitarian aid, caring for refugees, and offering essential services.

The King presented the award to UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini during their meeting on the sidelines of the Emergency Humanitarian Response Conference in Gaza, attended by Crown Prince Hussein bin Abdullah II.

King Abdullah emphasized the importance of continuing to support UNRWA to enable it to fulfill its humanitarian missions as mandated by the UN, warning of the negative consequences of hindering UNRWA’s operations in Gaza, which affect nearly two million Palestinian refugees.

He highlighted the significance of the conference in enhancing international coordination to ensure the delivery, increase, and sustainability of humanitarian aid to Gaza.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi, and Director of the King’s Office Dr. Jaafar Hassan.
