In response to widespread social media claims, Kuwaiti authorities clarified that the country will not limit the Adhan (call to prayer) to only the Dhuhr (noon) and Asr (afternoon) prayers to conserve electricity. This rumor emerged following the announcement of temporary power cuts during peak consumption times due to an inability of power stations to meet increased demand caused by hot weather.

Posts circulating since June 21, 2024, suggested that Kuwait would only broadcast the Adhan during Dhuhr and Asr prayers as a measure to save electricity. These claims gained traction after the Kuwaiti authorities declared potential power outages during peak hours, from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM, lasting between one to two hours if necessary.

The Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy had previously announced that certain areas might experience power cuts during peak demand to manage the strain on power generation. This is the first time the authorities have implemented such measures due to electricity production shortfalls.

Despite Kuwait's familiarity with the intense Gulf heat, the country is increasingly affected by climate change, largely driven by fossil fuel consumption, with Kuwait being one of the world's largest oil exporters.

However, the claims about limiting the Adhan are unfounded. Agence France-Presse (AFP) debunked the rumor, and the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs swiftly refuted the allegations. In a statement on their official X platform, the ministry confirmed, "This is untrue and baseless. All mosques will continue to welcome worshippers for all five daily prayers, and none will cease operations."
