Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi received a phone call on Wednesday from the United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

During the call, the two ministers discussed efforts to achieve an immediate and lasting ceasefire in Gaza. They also reviewed the negotiations being conducted by Egypt, Qatar, and the United States to finalize a deal that would end the war in Gaza.

Safadi and Blinken addressed the catastrophic humanitarian situation in Gaza and the urgent need to deliver sufficient and immediate aid throughout the region. They discussed cooperation to ensure the aid's distribution.

The ministers also talked about efforts to agree on a roadmap to end the conflict and achieve a just and comprehensive peace.

Safadi emphasized that the only way to achieve this is by ending the occupation and establishing a sovereign Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital, based on the June 4, 1967 lines, to live in security and peace alongside “Israel”, in accordance with the two-state solution.

Safadi warned against Tel Aviv's continued illegal actions in the occupied West Bank, which undermine the two-state solution, strangle the Palestinian economy, target the Palestinian National Authority and its institutions, and risk escalating the situation.

Safadi also stressed the importance of making every possible effort to prevent the conflict from spreading to Lebanon by activating international efforts to enforce Resolution 1701. He pointed out that stopping the aggression in Gaza is the fundamental step to protecting the region from the risk of an expanding conflict.
