The Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) said today that a reservist officer was killed in north “Israel” following a rocket launched by Hezbollah from Lebanon earlier today.

He is identified as Major (reserve) Itay Galea, 38 years old, a deputy company commander in the Yiftah Reserve Armored Brigade’s 8679th unit.

The IOF said earlier that it is continuing to strike Hezbollah targets in southern Lebanon, following a massive barrage of 200 rockets and 20 drones by the Lebanese group earlier today.

“In the last few hours, fighter jets struck buildings used by Hezbollah in Qanatra, Rab al-Thalathine, Deir Seryan, and Tallouseh,” the IOF said in a statement on its official “X” account.

Other Hezbollah infrastructure was targeted in Naqoura – according to the statement.

Hezbollah’s major attack was in retaliation for “Israel’s” assassination of a top Hezbollah commander.

Hezbollah announced that senior commander Mohammad Naama was martyred “on the way to Jerusalem” without specifying the details of the incident.

Fires broke out in many locations in the Galilee and the Golan heights, in addition to many settlers injured.

Rocket alarm sirens blared in the morning for more than one hour in the settlements of Kiryat Shmona and the Galilee panhandle.

Sirens were also activated in the Upper Galilee, in the Western Galilee, Katzrin, Nahariya, and Acre.

A source in Hezbollah told Al Jazeera: "The attacks are a continuation of the response to the assassination of Muhammad Naama Nasser. We launched more than 20 drones at many Israeli outposts in the Galilee, and more than 200 rockets at Israeli outposts in the Galilee and the Golan."

The source added that Hezbollah attacked “Israeli” bases of the 91st Division and the 7th Armored Brigade with rockets, and in addition claimed that a base was also attacked and two other outposts.
