Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Sisi met CIA director William J. Burns Tuesday in Cairo, where US and “Israeli” delegations met with mediators to discuss efforts for a ceasefire and a prisoner exchange deal in the Gaza Strip.

Office of President Sisi said the two parties "discussed the latest developments in joint efforts to reach a truce and ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip.”

Sisi underlined the need to ensure adequate delivery of relief aid to Gaza in a way that truly alleviates the humanitarian suffering of Palestinian people in the strip – according to Egyptian state media Al-Ahram.

He also highlighted the need for implementing a two-state solution within the framework of a just and comprehensive solution of the Palestinian cause.

On the other hand, CIA Director Burns commended the Egyptian efforts for achieving a ceasefire and ensuring humanitarian aid delivery to Gaza.

Burns conveyed President US President Joe Biden’s greetings to Sisi and affirmed the US appreciation for its strategic partnership with Egypt – per Al-Ahram.
