Moazaz Abiyat, a Palestinian ex-detainee, came forward with harrowing accounts of torture and mistreatment endured during his time in Israeli Occupation prisons.

Abiyat was released from Negev Prison on Tuesday, appearing frail and experiencing difficulty moving after spending nine months in administrative detention. Despite being in good health prior to his arrest, he was discharged in a severely deteriorated state.

Upon his release, he recounted that Itamar Ben-Gvir, “Israel's” Minister of National Security, physically assaulted him on Dec. 4 while he was held at Ofer Prison in the West Bank. Abiyat described how Ben-Gvir allegedly trampled on his body.

Abiyat also disclosed severe beatings inflicted upon him during his arrest in late October. Confirming these accounts, the Palestinian Prisoners Society reported multiple attempts on Abiyat's life while he was detained.

The Prisoners Society held “Israeli” authorities accountable for Abiyat's deteriorating health, condemning it as part of a broader pattern of systematic abuse and violations of prisoners' rights.

They called upon international human rights organizations to fulfill their obligations in addressing ongoing atrocities against Palestinian detainees.

Highlighting an alarming trend, the society pointed out a continued escalation in “Israel's” use of administrative detention, with more than 3800 individuals currently held without charge or trial, including women and children.

Many of these detainees suffer from chronic illnesses, exacerbated by the harsh conditions prevalent in “Israeli” prisons, particularly in Ktzi'ot Prison, where systematic torture and deliberate deprivation of basic needs are reportedly common.
