The United States said today the opening of a NATO liaison office in Amman reflects Jordan’s crucial role in maintaining regional stability.

The US State Department's Chief Regional spokesperson Sam Warburg, in statements to Jordan News Agency (Petra) during the NATO summit held in Washington, emphasized the importance of closer ties between NATO members and Jordan, labeling it as an “an important symbol and message from the international community and not just from the United States.”

He praised Jordan’s role in maintaining security, stability, and peace through its attempts to combat terrorism in the Middle East.

“[The opening of NATO liaison office] does not come within the framework of NATO offering something to Jordan only, but rather NATO countries have the opportunity to learn from Jordan's experience in combating terrorism,” he continued.

“Jordan will also have the opportunity to learn from NATO's experience.”

Warburg underscored that cyberattacks are currently the main threat, urging the need for coordination and cooperation in the form of innovative strategies and tactics to combat terrorism on the Internet.

The United States “considers [Jordan] as one the most important partners of the United States in terms of stability and security in the region” – further hailing the relationship between the two countries as one of the oldest American relations in the region.

He praised His Majesty King Abdullah II’s role in fostering the relationship with the US, saying that “this is not something that comes easily for any leader in the world to have a relationship with all the authorities in America,” in reference to His Majesty’s good standing relationship with President Joe Biden, Congress, and the federal government.
