US President Joe Biden has stated that he will withdraw from the presidential race if doctors find any health issues.

In an interview with BET News, excerpts of which were aired on Tuesday, Biden responded to a question about whether anything, including family members, could make him reconsider staying in the race.

Biden said, "If I develop some disease and I have to resign, that's my single condition."

He added, "When I ran initially, you may recall, I said I would be a transitional president. I thought there would be able to pass on this to somebody else. But I didn't realize how divided this country would become."

He continued, "Frankly, I think the only thing that comes with age is a little bit of wisdom. I've proven that I know how to get things done for this country, even though we were told we couldn't do it... we did it, but there's still a lot to do, and I'm reluctant to walk away from that."

After Biden's poor performance in the first televised debate against Republican candidate and former President Donald Trump at the end of last month, pressures have been mounting within the Democratic camp to push Biden to abandon his presidential ambitions and make way for another candidate better equipped to face Trump in the November 5 presidential election.
