An Italian journalist was ordered to pay EUR 5,000 (USD 5,465) for mocking Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni for her height in a social media post.

Giulia Cortese, the journalist, mocked Meloni on social media platform X in Oct. 2021, and was defined as body shaming by a Milan court.

Cortese published a photoshopped photo of Meloni and the fascist leader Benito Mussolini in the background, and said “you don’t scare me, Giorgia Meloni. After all, you're only 1.2 meters tall. I can't even see you.”

Meloni’s height is estimated to be between 1.58 and 1.63 meters.

Meloni’s lawyers said that any damages she eventually receives will be donated to charity.
