The “Israeli” military said Sunday it intercepted a missile fired from Yemen towards Eilat, hours after “Israel” carried out airstrikes on the Yemeni port city of Hodeida.
"The projectile did not cross into Israeli territory. Rocket and missile sirens were sounded following the possibility of falling shrapnel," the statement said.
The Yemeni city of Hodeida has been targeted by multiple “Israeli” strikes on Saturday night., in response to a Houthi drone attack on Tel Aviv a day before.
Houthi-affiliated media stated that the strikes specifically targeted oil refinery facilities at Hodeida's port, leading to significant damage.
These attacks followed a Houthi drone attack that breached “Israel's” air defenses, striking a building in Tel Aviv and killing one.
“Israeli” Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said the strike was in order to send a message across the Middle East.
“The fire that is currently burning in Hodeidah, is seen across the Middle East and the significance is clear,” Gallant said in a statement.
“The Houthis attacked us over 200 times. The first time that they harmed an Israeli citizen, we struck them. And we will do this in any place where it may be required.”
The recent strikes on Yemen’s port city of Hodeida will be met with “escalation” – a Houthi official said after the attack.
"The Zionist entity will pay the price for targeting civilian facilities, and we will meet escalation with escalation," Huthi politburo member Mohammed al-Bukhaiti said in a post on social media.
