His Majesty King Abdullah II and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer emphasized the necessity of achieving an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and increasing humanitarian aid to civilians during their meeting in London on Tuesday.
His Majesty highlighted at the beginning of the meeting that Jordan and Britain share a strong and deep relationship, adding, "I am confident that, as always, we will work to strengthen it to face many challenges in the region."
His Majesty renewed his congratulations to the British Prime Minister on assuming his position.
Regarding current developments in the region, His Majesty warned of the danger of the war expanding in the region.
His Majesty stressed the importance of Britain's role in mobilizing the efforts of all parties to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza and enhancing the humanitarian response to stop the catastrophe experienced by Gazans, noting that Jordan will continue to coordinate with Britain to increase aid.
His Majesty appreciated the recent decision of the British government to resume its support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) to enable it to fulfill its vital and humanitarian role, according to its UN mandate, for millions of Palestinians in Gaza and the region.
His Majesty warned against the violence perpetrated by extremist “Israeli” settlers against Palestinians in the West Bank and the ongoing violations of Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.
His Majesty reiterated that the region will remain hostage to violence and instability unless a political horizon is found to achieve a just and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution, which meets the rights of the Palestinian people to establish their independent state on the June 4, 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
His Majesty praised the UK's continuous support for Jordan, especially in the developmental and defense fields, stressing the keenness to enhance cooperation and joint coordination in various areas.
For his part, Starmer affirmed the depth of Jordanian-British relations, saying, "We share a long and common history, and we have an opportunity to build on the exceptional cooperation between us."
He noted the importance of his meeting with His Majesty, "to discuss many pressing issues of common interest."
On the sidelines of the visit, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi held talks with his British counterpart David Lammy, focusing on efforts to achieve an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and sufficient delivery of aid to all parts of the strip.
The ministers also discussed prospects for enhancing bilateral cooperation in various fields.
