With President Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the presidential race, Vice President Kamala Harris is set to lead the Democratic party against former President Donald Trump.

Harris's entry into the race has sparked renewed scrutiny of her foreign policy positions, particularly regarding the Israeli Occupation aggression on Palestinians, Middle East Eye reported.

Critics noted Harris’s softer rhetoric compared to Biden's staunch support for "Israel".

Some progressive activists have highlighted her decision not to attend "Israeli" Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s address to Congress and her calls for a ceasefire in Gaza as evidence that she might be more receptive to pro-Palestinian demands.

Despite these observations, former US officials from both Democratic and Republican administrations suggest that Harris is likely to maintain the existing foreign policy trajectory.

Aaron David Miller, a former Middle East negotiator, stated, "She may be a more energetic player but one thing you shouldn't expect – any immediate big shifts in the substance of Biden's foreign policy."

Harris’s political career has often been characterized by adapting to popular currents rather than presenting a distinctive vision.

While she has expressed criticism of "Israel's" actions in Gaza, her broader foreign policy stance aligns closely with Biden’s.

Notably, in March, Harris called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza but tempered her statement, which was met with applause.

James Zogby, President of the Arab American Institute (AAI), reported that Harris showed "far greater empathy" for Palestinian suffering compared to Biden. However, despite this empathy, Harris has not indicated any significant policy shifts away from Biden's approach.

Harris's relationship with pro-"Israel" groups reveals a more complex picture.

She has been endorsed by J Street, a liberal Zionist lobbying group, but has also maintained connections with American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) and received backing from the Democratic Majority for Israel.

So while Harris may adopt a more moderate tone, her support for "Israel" is unlikely to waver significantly.
