Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei gave president-elect Masoud Pezeshkian his official endorsement as the country’s ninth president after the death of Ebrahim Raisi in a helicopter crash in May.

"I endorse the vote (for) the wise, honest, popular and scholarly Mr Pezeshkian, and I am appointing him as the president of the Islamic Republic of Iran,” a message read by the director of Khameni’s office said – per Agence France-Presse (AFP).

Pezeshkian is due to be sworn in before the Iranian parliament on Tuesday.

The inauguration ceremony for Bozkir's presidency took place at the Jamaran Hussainiya, the house of Imam Ruhollah Khomeini, in Tehran, where Khamenei announced the inauguration of Iran’s ninth president since the establishment of the Islamic Republic in 1979.
