On Tuesday, Interior Minister Mazin Al-Farrayeh and Minister of Government Communication and Government Spokesperson Dr. Mohannad Al-Mubaidin held a press conference titled "Security and Stability as Pillars in State Building."

Al-Farrayeh stated that crime rates in Jordan remain within normal limits, noting that the detection and apprehension of crimes are at high levels, with murder cases reaching 100 percent.

He highlighted an increase in the number of people arriving in Jordan from the Gulf countries, with around half a million people entering and leaving the Kingdom through border crossings, showing a rise from 2023.

Drug Trafficking

Regarding drug trafficking into the Kingdom, Al-Farrayeh acknowledged that this remains a significant concern, with an increase in drug-related cases detected in 2024 compared to 2023. He reported a particular rise in Captagon seizures, with about 5 million pills intercepted.

Al-Farrayeh noted that the demand for drug rehabilitation centers in Jordan is limited.

In 2023, 25,000 individuals faced drug-related charges, with a 91 percent conviction rate. Additionally, 180 people were sentenced to over 10 years in drug-related cases.

He also pointed out that there is no direct evidence linking any countries to drug trafficking into Jordan.

Traffic Violations

Regarding traffic law enforcement, Al-Farrayeh mentioned a 19 percent increase in traffic violations. However, traffic-related fatalities have decreased by 21 percent.

Water Theft

Al-Farrayeh discussed ongoing security campaigns to address various issues, including water theft.

He described this phenomenon as particularly troubling in a country facing severe water shortages. Measures taken, such as demolishing wells and cutting water lines, have saved about 20 million cubic meters of water annually, enough to support 124,000 people for a year.

Syrian Refugees

Al-Farrayeh reported that Jordan has hosted 1.3 million Syrian refugees since the onset of the Syrian crisis. He added that the number of Syrian refugees born in Jordan has increased by 233,000.

Travel Restrictions to the UK

Al-Farrayeh revealed that some restrictions have been imposed on beneficiaries of travel facilitation to the UK.

Citizenship

He mentioned that 496 individuals acquired Jordanian citizenship through investment, including 121 last year.

Gaza Conflict

Al-Farrayeh affirmed that Jordan has facilitated the entry of patients from Gaza, including 63 children with cancer and their 83 companions, into Jordan for treatment at the King Hussein Center. He emphasized that Jordan has made significant efforts since the beginning of the conflict in Gaza.

Parliamentary Elections

Regarding the upcoming parliamentary elections, Al-Farrayeh noted that there is a security plan to protect polling stations and the electoral process, coordinated with the Independent Election Commission. He emphasized that the government will remain neutral and will only intervene to ensure the safety of the electoral process, as stated by Prime Minister Dr. Bisher Al-Khasawneh.
