Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi received a phone call today from the United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

During the call, the two ministers followed up on their previous phone conversation on Tuesday regarding the escalating situation in the region and the steps required to address it.

Safadi stressed that halting the “Israeli” aggression on Gaza is the first crucial step toward de-escalation, which is vital for regional security and peace.

He emphasized that ending the aggression on Gaza is a goal that must unify all efforts to achieve it and protect it from any threat. This action would save Gaza and its people from the death and destruction inflicted by the aggression and relieve the region from the dangerous tension that could lead to an eruption – the statement by the Foreign Ministry said.

Safadi highlighted the importance of the statement issued by the US President Joe Biden, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, and Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani regarding the resumption of negotiations for a prisoner exchange deal.

He reiterated Jordan’s support for the statement and its goal of reaching a deal that ensures a permanent ceasefire as soon as possible.

The two ministers also discussed cooperation in delivering adequate and immediate aid to Gaza to address the humanitarian crisis.
