On Sunday evening, the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) issued a statement in response to the trilateral statement regarding ceasefire negotiations in Gaza.

Hamas stated that since the beginning of the aggression, it has been committed to supporting the efforts of mediators from Egypt and Qatar to reach a ceasefire agreement and end the genocide against the Palestinian people. The group reiterated its support for any effort that achieves the cessation of aggression.

"Hamas has engaged in numerous rounds of negotiations, demonstrating flexibility and positivity to achieve the objectives and interests of the people, halt the genocide, facilitate prisoner exchanges, provide humanitarian aid, allow displaced persons to return, and rebuild what was destroyed by the aggression,” Hamas’ statement said.

“In this context, the movement agreed to the mediators' proposal on May 6, 2024, welcomed President Biden's announcement on May 31, 2024, and supported UN Security Council Resolution 2735.”

“However, this was met with rejection by [Israel], who continued the massacres against our people and maintained its stance of not being serious about a permanent ceasefire. Its aggressive actions against our people are a practical demonstration of this.”

"Although we and our mediators from Egypt and Qatar recognize the true intentions and positions of the occupation and its Prime Minister, the movement responded to the latest agreement on July 2, 2024. This was met with new conditions from [Israel] that had not been proposed during the negotiations, escalating its aggression and committing further massacres, culminating in the assassination of our leader, the martyr Ismail Haniyeh, which confirmed [Israel’s] intent to continue aggression and avoid reaching a ceasefire agreement."

"Even after the trilateral statement, [Israel] committed a heinous crime by carrying out a massacre against displaced persons at the Al-Tabbahin School in the Al-Daraj neighborhood of Gaza while they were performing the Fajr prayer on Saturday, August 10, 2024. This resulted in the martyrdom of over one hundred civilians and injuries to more than 250."

Hamas concluded by urging the mediators to present a plan to implement what was agreed upon on July 2, 2024, based on President Biden's plan and UN Security Council Resolution, and to compel the occupation to adhere to it.

The movement called for avoiding further rounds of negotiations or new proposals that could provide cover for the occupation's aggression and grant it more time to continue its genocide against the Palestinian people.
