A knife-wielding man stabbed an 11-year-old girl and 34-year-old mother in Leicester Square in Central London today.

The attacker, 32 years of age, was arrested and taken into custody by the Metropolitan Police.

The girl is suffering from “serious” but not life-threatening injuries, while the mother’s wounds are less severe.

The police added there no signs so far that that the attack was terror-related.

An eyewitness described the incident to the BBC, saying he heard a scream. As he went outside, the man jumped on the suspect and kicked the weapon away from him after pinning him down.

Other bystanders also joined in, and pinned the attacker down for four to five minutes.

Another witness said he had seen the suspect earlier in the day. “He was standing, doing nothing, eating.”

London police is still at the scene, which is considered one the busiest tourist attractions in the city.
