The Independent Election Commission (IEC) announced today that the prosecutor's office has referred three individuals to court on charges of committing "election violence" against women candidates. This follows their identification by security forces and their apprehension at an electoral district.

In its statement, the Commission revealed that a case has been filed with the prosecutor against the suspects, and they are being investigated for the election violence incident targeting a candidate. Consequently, they have been detained for seven days pending further investigation.

The Commission also noted that this case brings the total number of cases referred to the judiciary to eight, with a previous court ruling already issued in one of these cases.

Additionally, the statement mentioned that the Commission is currently reviewing 22 other cases of alleged electoral bribery through its specialized committees, following monitoring activities and complaints received from citizens.

The Commission reaffirmed its full commitment to preventing any practices that could influence voters' will and emphasized the crucial role of citizens in reporting any violations to ensure the integrity and neutrality of the electoral process.

The Commission urged anyone with evidence or documentation of electoral crimes to report them promptly.
