Today, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi discussed the current regional tensions in a phone call with Josep Borrell, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.

During the call, Safadi emphasized the need for the European Union (EU) to take decisive action against “Israel's” ongoing aggression in Gaza, the violation of Palestinian rights in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and the continued breaches of international law and humanitarian law, which risk plunging the region into further conflict.

Safadi criticized the international community's failure to take stringent measures to halt “Israel's” war crimes against Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank. He highlighted the dangers posed by “Israel's” violations of international law and the threats to global peace and security – per a statement by the Foreign Ministry.

He urged the EU to impose sanctions on extremist “Israeli” officials who promote hate speech, support settler terrorism, and violate the sanctity of religious sites in Jerusalem.

Safadi condemned the provocative visit of “Israeli” extremist Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir to the Al-Aqsa Mosque, describing it as a blatant breach of the historical and legal status of the site and a dangerous escalation warranting strict penalties.

Safadi also stressed the importance of the EU opposing the ongoing settlement expansion in Palestinian territories, which contradicts EU positions that consider settlement construction and land confiscation as violations of international law.

He reiterated the urgent need for an immediate cessation of “Israeli” aggression against Gaza.

Safadi and Borrell both supported the efforts of Egypt, Qatar, and the United States in seeking a prisoner exchange deal.

Safadi thanked Borrell for his clear stance on calling for an immediate ceasefire, ending the humanitarian disaster in Gaza, upholding international law, and halting “Israel's” illegal actions across all occupied Palestinian territories.
