Abdul Salam Haniyeh, the son of the late Hamas chief, Ismail Haniyeh, revealed that a missile attack targeted his father.

Abdul Salam disclosed that the missile was guided by his father's mobile phone, he told Al Arabiya in an interview, which he had placed near his head at night.

The missile struck directly at the location where his father had placed his phone, dismissing earlier media reports that suggested a bomb had been planted, according to Abdul Salam.

"There were bodyguards and advisors in a room just a few meters away, so if there had been an explosive device, the entire area would have been destroyed," he explained.

Haniyeh's son emphasized that the use of his father’s mobile phone made him an easy target.

“He was carrying his phone during an official event, making the attack relatively straightforward," Abdul Salam noted.

He also mentioned that his father had been using the phone frequently, including at 10:15 PM on the night of the attack.

The assassination occurred on July 31, shortly after the inauguration of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.

Following the incident, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) reported that a short-range shell, loaded with approximately seven kilograms of explosives, was fired from outside the building where Haniyeh was staying.
