Prime Minister Bisher Al-Khasawneh announced on Sunday a series of Cabinet decisions.

Firstly, Khasawneh stated that the Purchasing Committee selected Meridiam SUEZ as the preferred bidder for the National Conveyor Project.

Khasawneh explained that the updated bid evaluation came after the Cabinet granted permission for the Purchasing Committee to assess it last week.

He indicated that the committee will now proceed with finalizing the purchase and initiating direct negotiations with Meridian SUEZ to move forward with this crucial project.

He noted that the government has been working for over three years to launch the National Conveyor Project, which aims to deliver up to 300 million cubic meters of desalinated water from the Red Sea.

He stated, “The designation of Meridian SUEZ as the preferred bidder is a significant milestone, as it paves the way for final negotiations with international financiers. This project will enhance our water resources and demonstrates the trust international investors have in Jordan despite regional challenges.”

The Prime Minister also discussed upcoming projects, including a rail line from Aqaba to southern Jordan’s mining areas.

He hopes that by early September, the government will finalize agreements with an Arab investment fund and sign preliminary documents for this project, which is crucial for Jordan’s infrastructure and reflects the high confidence of investment partners in Jordan’s economic stability and investment environment.

Additionally, Khasawneh announced plans for a new 15km bridge over King Abdullah II Street in Amman.

The bridge would extend from Sweileh to Marj Al-Hamam and is designed to provide a dedicated lane for a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system.

He expressed pride in the progress of the rapid transit bus system, highlighting the successful completion of its first two phases in Amman and the bus service operation between Amman and Zarqa.

Regarding the upcoming parliamentary elections on Sept. 10, Khasawneh urged citizens, especially youth and women, to actively participate.

He emphasized the importance of choosing candidates and parties that align with the Kingdom’s economic, social, and political needs.

He said, “Voting is essential for bridging the gap between citizens and decision-making bodies. This election will also introduce a significant presence of party-list seats in Parliament, marking a step towards a party-majority legislature.”

Al-Khasawneh reiterated the government’s commitment to supporting the Independent Election Commission in its constitutional role, ensuring that all necessary resources are provided to facilitate a smooth electoral process.
