A new report by the Arab Barometer revealed that 42 percent of Jordanians contemplate emigration due to the country's worsening economic and living conditions.

Jordan now places second only to Tunisia, where 46 percent of the population has expressed a desire to leave in search of better opportunities.

The report underscores the growing discontent among Jordanian youth, reflecting a broader regional issue.

Tunisia, already grappling with its own economic struggles, leads the list of countries with high emigration aspirations.

Meanwhile, Palestine, despite facing severe economic and security challenges due to the ongoing aggression by the Israeli Occupation, reported a stable emigration rate of 35 percent compared to two years ago.

The report's release coincides with significant economic disruptions within Jordan.

Fares Braizat, Chief Commissioner of the Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority (PDTRA), announced on Sunday that 35 hotels in Petra have been forced to close due to an 80 percent drop in tourism activity, a decline attributed to the impact of Israeli Occupation genocide on the Gaza Strip.

Braizat noted that more than 90 percent of hotel rooms in Petra are now shuttered, leading to the layoff of over 320 employees.

The closures have not only impacted the revenues of the PDTRA but also severely affected the local community dependent on tourism.
