Political science professor Hassan Nafaa highlighted deep tensions between Cairo and Tel Aviv over Israeli Occupation's insistence on controlling the Philadelphi Corridor, despite Egyptian opposition.

In an interview with Roya, Nafaa explained that the corridor, a 14-kilometer border strip between Egypt and Gaza, along with the Rafah crossing, are key points of contention between Israeli Occupation and Egypt, which is pushing for a full Israeli Occupation withdrawal from Gaza and a ceasefire.

Nafaa criticized Israeli Occupation Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for imposing last-minute conditions that disrupt negotiations, aiming to control areas like the Netzarim passage, Rafah crossing, and Philadelphi Corridor. He argued that Netanyahu is using the corridor as a pretext, citing alleged tunnels and arms smuggling, to undermine agreements.

Nafaa cautioned against over-optimism regarding ceasefire talks, noting that past reports of progress have often failed to result in concrete agreements. He also mentioned that Netanyahu has not allowed the Israeli Occupation delegation in Cairo to sign any deals.

He warned that if Donald Trump returns to the US presidency, Netanyahu may gain more freedom to act in Gaza and the West Bank, potentially leading to the final resolution of the Palestinian issue.
