Public Security Directorate announced the arrest of a parliamentary candidate in Amman on Saturday.

The arrest was related to pending legal and financial cases involving citizens, with previous court orders and judgments issued against him.

According to the spokesperson, the arrest occurred after a routine check of a public vehicle revealed that one passenger had six outstanding legal requests for financial matters. It was later found that this passenger was a parliamentary candidate.

The spokesperson emphasized that candidacy does not provide immunity from legal and financial obligations. Other candidates have addressed their legal issues by settling them, which was confirmed before their candidacy. The Directorate’s role is to enforce the law and assist in executing court orders, and the arrested candidate will be referred to the appropriate judicial authorities.

The Independent Election Commission confirmed that all candidates who were approved for elections had obtained a certificate of no criminal record issued within the last 30 days, in line with election regulations. All application documents were thoroughly checked before decisions were made.
