Severe disruptions affected the Eurostar network linking Brussels and London on Tuesday following an accident in western Belgium.

A high-speed train collided with a tractor-trailer at an intersection, according to the train company.

The incident led to the cancellation of five out of 18 scheduled trains for the day, including two services from London to Brussels and three from Brussels to London. The remaining trains experienced delays of nearly an hour.

The collision occurred when the high-speed train, en route from Brussels to Lille, France, struck a tractor-trailer that had stalled at an intersection in the Piquet area, part of the municipality of Tournai near the French border.

The accident resulted in injuries to two passengers aboard the train, and emergency teams attended to the driver, who was reported to be in "shock," according to Infrabel, Belgium’s government-owned public railway network.
