The Public Security Directorate (PSD) emphasized the importance of maintaining the validity of front and rear license plates on vehicles.

In a post on its page today, the directorate stated that concealing a license plate is an indicator of intent to commit a criminal or security-related act, in addition to being a serious violation that can cause disorder. The license plate, it noted, serves as the vehicle's identity and enhances the safety of both the driver and road users.

The directorate also pointed out that tampering with the plate or its numbers—through erasure or attempted alteration—suggests an intent to deceive or commit a serious act.

Furthermore, the directorate highlighted that traffic and criminal departments have the technical capabilities to identify vehicles and access all related information. They will take legal and security measures against anyone committing such acts after investigating and confirming their unlawful intentions and actions. The directorate added that patrols in the field have intensified their monitoring to detect any such practices.

According to the amended Traffic Law, tampering with vehicle license plates is punishable by imprisonment for not less than one month and not more than three months, or a fine of not less than JD 250 and not more than JD 500, or both penalties.
