The Palestinian Ministry of Health unveiled the schedule for its upcoming polio vaccination campaign targeting children under the age of 10 in the southern governorates of Gaza.

The campaign, which begins on Sunday, Sept. 1, 2024, will be carried out in three phases across different regions.

The initiative will kick off in the Deir Al-Balah Governorate, from Sept. 1 to Sept. 4.

It will then proceed to the Khan Younis Governorate from Sept. 5 to Sept. 8, before concluding in the Gaza and North areas from Sept. 9 to Sept. 12.

The Ministry announced that cold chain equipment will be transported between regions per the campaign schedule to ensure vaccine efficacy.

The campaign is being conducted in partnership with the World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF, and UNRWA.

The Ministry assured the public of the vaccine’s safety and effectiveness.

To facilitate participation, the Ministry has released detailed maps of vaccination centers and sent out text notifications to residents in Gaza with information on vaccination dates.

On Thursday, a WHO official confirmed that Israeli authorities have approved a series of "humanitarian truces" lasting three days each in central, southern, and northern Gaza.

These truces are intended to enable the smooth rollout of the polio vaccination campaign starting this Sunday.
