Under the amended election law, individuals found with a weapon inside polling stations face either imprisonment from three months to one year, a fine between JD 200-500, or both penalties.

The law applies to anyone carrying a firearm, even if licensed, or any object that could pose a threat to public safety within polling and counting centers on election day.

The legislative elections for the 20th House of Representatives are scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 9.

A total of 5,115,219 Jordanians are registered to vote in the 2024 elections.
