The Iranian ambassador to Lebanon Mojtaba Amani lost one eye with the other being seriously wounded after the wide-scale pager explosions in Lebanon yesterday – according to The New York Times.

Amani was carrying a pager himself, and was among the nearly 3,000 injured.

Yesterday, it was reported that the ambassador’s injuries were “superficial”, but members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) told the NYT that his injuries are more serious than initially reported.

He is set to travel back to Tehran for treatment.
