Saturday, the European Union called on authorities to act "urgently" to reduce "tension" in Occupied Jerusalem after violent confrontations between the Palestinians and Israeli Occupation police.

"Violence and incitement are unacceptable and the perpetrators on all sides must be held accountable," a spokesman for the Union said, adding that "the European Union calls on the authorities to act urgently to reduce the current tension in Jerusalem."

Friday, more than 220 Palestinians and six Israeli Occupation policemen were wounded, most of them in the courtyard of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, in the largest clashes in recent years in occupied East Jerusalem.

"Political, religious and community leaders from all walks of life must show restraint and responsibility, and do everything possible to calm this explosive situation," the spokesman said.

On the other hand, the European Union said that the expulsion of Palestinian families from Sheikh Jarrah and other areas in East Jerusalem is "extremely worrying."

The spokesman warned that "these actions are illegal under international humanitarian law and only serve to fuel tension on the ground."
