A powerful summer storm swept through Dutch cities on Wednesday, resulting in the death of one woman who suffered bad injuries as her car was toppled by a tree. Numerous flights were also canceled at Amsterdam airport and the suspension of train services.

State media reported that the National Meteorological Institute issued a red alert for three provinces, as Storm Poly unleashed heavy rain and strong winds along the west coast of Amsterdam, reaching speeds of approximately 145 kilometers per hour.

The storm caused widespread damage, including uprooted trees and overturned objects in the capital city of Amsterdam, coinciding with the busy morning commute.

As a precautionary measure, emergency services in the province of North Holland sent out mobile phone alerts, urging people to remain indoors until the storm subsided.
