The European Union (EU) has called for "faster and more aid" to be provided to the Gaza Strip in light of the blockade imposed by the Israeli Occupation since the start of Operation Aqsa Typhoon.

Josep Borrell, the EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs, emphasized Monday the need for additional and expedited assistance to Gaza, noting ongoing discussions among nations regarding the call for a "humanitarian ceasefire" in the heavily bombarded region.

Borrell stated ahead of a meeting of foreign ministers from member states that it is crucial to provide more and faster aid, particularly in terms of delivering essential supplies that can restore water and electricity.

In a joint statement released Saturday, the United Nations (UN) emphasized the urgent need for a ceasefire and unrestricted access to all parts of the Gaza Strip.

UN agencies reported that over 1.6 million people in Gaza are in dire need of humanitarian aid.

The agencies noted that the aid that entered Gaza Saturday was just a small beginning and far from being sufficient.
