In a significant move, the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) adopted a ceasefire resolution in the Gaza Strip after 14 countries backed the draft resolution put forward while the United States abstained.

Russia's ambassador, Vasily Nebenzya, emphasized the importance of reinstating the word 'permanent' in a resolution, highlighting its crucial role in ensuring stability. Nebenzya firmly stated that any attempt to alter this term could provoke Israeli Occupation to resume its offensive in Gaza.

The ambassador's statement comes amidst mounting international efforts to broker a ceasefire in the famine-ridden region.

Mozambique's ambassador to the UN, Pedro Comissario Afonso, introduced a draft resolution demanding an immediate cessation of hostilities. Afonso underscored the urgent need to address the dire situation in Gaza, stressing its implications for global peace and security.

The draft resolution, supported by the elected members of the UNSC, aims to address the escalating aggression in Gaza and alleviate the suffering of its inhabitants.

As the UNSC session commenced, members observed a minute of silence to honor the victims of the recent attack in Russia.
