A 4.8 magnitude earthquake struck the densely populated New York City metropolitan area Friday morning, the US Geological Survey said in a statement cited by The Guardian.

The earthquake has a preliminary magnitude of 4.8, and was centered around the town of Lebanon, New Jersey.

New York’s Fire Department said there were no initial reports of damage.

“My team is assessing impacts and any damage that may have occurred, and we will update the public throughout the day,” New York governor, Kathy Hochul said on her “X” platform.
