Jordanian Border Guard have thwarted an attempt to smuggle narcotics through its southern borders today, Friday, which resulted in the death of the two individuals and the seizure of the narcotics found in their possession - a statement by the Jordanian Armed Forces (JAF) said.

A border guard patrol engaged with the two infiltrators at 8:00 AM, in which rules of the engagement were applied. The two smugglers are Jameel Atallah Awad Al-Saidein and Mahmoud Eid Salamah Al-Saidein - according to the statement.

Drug trafficking and smuggling from neighboring countries have surged in recent years, with most of it coming from the northern borders with Syria - where Iranian proxies are most active.

Drug trafficking and manufacturing, done on an industrial scale by Iran’s proxies and allies, is a major financing source for their activities in the region.

The JAF have steadily and successfully thwarted multiple attempts by traffickers to smuggle and peddle drugs -mainly Captagon- into Jordan, and have conducted multiple airstrikes in the past year targeting hideouts and production facilities inside Syria.
