The President of the Civil Aviation Regulatory Commission (CARC), Haitham Misto, announced that Jordan closed its airspace at 11 PM. local time in Amman for several hours to ensure the safety and security of civil aviation in its skies and airports - in statements made to Roya.

No aircraft would be allowed to enter or depart Jordanian airspace, especially after the Commission had issued a notice three hours prior to the closure to airports and airlines.

He added that the airspace closure was a precautionary measure in line with international standards, amid increased regional tension. The decision was made based on risk assessments conducted by the Commission, prioritizing the safety and security of civil aviation. The closure decision was solely made by the Civil Aviation Regulatory Commission (CARC).

Misto emphasized that Jordan, through the CARC, is committed to the Chicago Convention on International Civil Aviation, which mandates that states maintain the safety and security of civil aviation in their airspace and airports. This convention is binding for all states, not just Jordan.

He noted that airports and airlines were informed of Jordan's decision to close its airspace three hours prior to the closure, stating that failing to close the airspace would constitute a violation of international agreements and treaties.
