Jordan’s Foreign Minister Minister Ayman Safadi has called upon the United Nations Security Council to recognize an independent Palestinian state and “support peace in the Middle East.”

"Peace in the region will only be achieved by realizing the Palestinian dream of an independent state."

In statements made before the Security Council on Thursday’s open session held to vote on the Palestinian members of the United Nations, Safadi stated that the Israeli Occupation’s aggression against Gaza reveals the “barbaric, racist, retaliatory mindset, disregarding human values and disrespecting international law, fueled by hatred” against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

“Israel has destroyed Gaza displacing two-thirds of its population, reducing its schools to rubble, its homes to ruins, and its neighborhoods to remnants.”

“But it did not break the will of its people to live. It did not kill the hope of its children for freedom. We saw this will in the face of an elderly Gazan defying oppression, insisting that he will not abandon the land of his fathers and ancestors. He was born there, and he will die there,” he continued.

Safadi said the Israeli Occupation’s crimes in Gaza exhibit “selectivity in the application of international treaties” as its “crimes go unpunished internationally.”

“Some [Palestinians] are shot by [Israel’s] bullets, and others by its siege, which has employed hunger as a weapon and torture as revenge.”

He added that “Israel’s” falsehoods on Gaza are “unprecedented in its arrogance and inhumanity in modern history.”

After Iran’s massive aerial attack on “Israel” on Saturday night, Safadi reiterated Jordan’s position of not tolerating the usage of Jordanian airspace by any party. “We will not allow Jordan to be a battleground.”
