British actor Bernard Hill, best known for portrayal of King Theoden in The Lord of the Rings trilogy, has died today, Sunday aged 79 - per an announcement by his agent cited by Agence France-Presse (AFP).

Hill also played Captain Edward Smith in 1997 classic “Titanic”, and gained global recognition for playing the King of Rohan -Theoden- in two consecutive parts of the The Lord of The Rings Trilogy – “The Two Towers” and the third and final film “The Return of the King”.

His agent, Lou Coulson, confirmed his death in the early hours of Sunday to British media outlets.
