Agriculture Minister Khaled Hneifat stated that lemon production amounts to about 60 tons daily, while the local market needs 200 tons.

Hneifat mentioned that the import of lemons started in mid-April to address a 7,000-ton shortfall for June, July, and August. Speaking at the Government Communication Forum on Tuesday, he highlighted the lemon production deficit and noted that the daily production is around 60 tons, while the market demand is 200 tons.

He assured that the current lemon prices, which have reached 3 dinars in the markets, would decrease at the beginning of next week. This reduction is due to the importation of approximately 750 tons of African lemons, which will positively impact prices.

Hneifat also noted that the ministry had issued 170 import licenses for lemons from South Africa and Turkey. Any delays in shipments are due to traders not utilizing these licenses.
