Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi and Lebanese Foreign Minister Abdallah Bou Habib discussed efforts to reduce tensions in southern Lebanon today.

In a phone call with Bou Habib, Safadi warned of the danger of the ongoing “Israeli” aggression in Gaza expanding to the occupied West Bank and Lebanon, threatening the entire region.

Safadi emphasized the urgent need for the international community to de-escalate the situation on the Lebanese-”Israeli” border, respecting Lebanon's boundaries, sovereignty, and security.

He underscored the importance of adhering to relevant UN Security Council resolutions, particularly Resolution 1701, as a means to stop the escalation and prevent the region from being dragged into another war that threatens regional and international security and stability.

Safadi reiterated Jordan’s unwavering support for Lebanon, its security, stability, and the safety of its citizens, and backed all efforts aimed at reducing the escalation.

He warned that the risk of the conflict expanding is real and growing as “Israel” continues its aggression in Gaza, the ongoing humanitarian catastrophe faced by the Palestinian people, and the international community's failure to halt the aggression and compel “Israel” to respect international law and humanitarian law, and to stop killing, starving, and besieging the Palestinian people.

Bou Habib emphasized that Lebanon relies on the solidarity and support of Arab nations, especially Jordan, as well as the United Nations and the international community, to curb the escalating Israeli threats.

He stressed Lebanon’s diligent pursuit of successful diplomatic solutions and ongoing mediations for the full implementation of Resolution 1701, which requires an immediate halt to “Israeli” military assaults, the demarcation and confirmation of internationally recognized borders, cessation of violations of Lebanon's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and enhanced support for the Lebanese army to fully perform its duties in maintaining security and stability in southern Lebanon in close cooperation with UNIFIL forces.
