Saturday, TikTok remained suspended for the second consecutive day following the start of its temporary suspension earlier Friday according to the Cybercrime Unit in Jordan.

Additionally, the Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship, Ahmed Al-Hanandeh, said Saturday that TikTok, which was suspended upon request from the Public Security Directorate, will remain so until further notice.

According to the Cybercrime Unit, the suspension came after some users posted falsifying videos on TikTok aimed at spreading false news and acts of violence.

The unit stressed that the cybercrime teams are following up on what is being published and circulated on social media, especially with regard to hate speech, incitement to vandalism, assaults on law enforcement agencies, property and road blocking.

They explained in a statement that the competent authorities will refer anyone who commits such crimes to the judiciary.

Prior to the unit’s announcement, TikTok users had reported that the platform stopped working in Jordan. The hashtag ‘TikTok’ topped the list of trending hashtags on Twitter.
