After over a month and a half, TikTok remains suspended in Jordan.

In an exclusive statement to Roya, a TikTok spokesperson said that the platform is committed to improving and updating its safety policies and tools.

The spokesperson said that the TikTok community in Jordan “has been inspiring creativity in different aspects whether its science, education or sports.”

“354 million views from Jordan to our #LearnonTiktok hashtag, and 138 million views of #Booktok is a testament to the creativity of this community.”

According to the spokesperson, TikTok will continue to take all the required appropriate actions against content that violates their community guidelines.

“We are also committed to keeping TikTok a safe and positive environment for our global community.”

On Dec. 16, 2022, TikTok was suspended temporarily in Jordan by authorities after some users posted videos aimed at spreading false news and acts of violence.

The spokesperson, however, stressed that their community guidelines enforcement report showed that violative content has been taken down in Jordan.

According to the report, a total of 310,724 videos were deleted in Jordan of which 86.6 percent were removed before receiving any views.

“We have faith that through our ongoing conversations with the authorities, we can arrive at a resolution that would allow TikTok to continue serving the millions of users in Jordan who have found a home for creative expression on our platform,” the spokesperson said.

TikTok was suspended in Jordan in December 2022 during a partial transport sector strike. Many violent videos taken in other countries were published on TikTok where users made it seem as though the videos were taken in Jordan during the strike.

Last week, the head of the Cybercrime Unit at the Public Security Directorate Abd al-Hadi al-Tahat said that TikTok will remain banned in Jordan unless the platform starts adhering to all regulations and laws. This came following talks held by TikTok with the Jordanian authorities with the aim of lifting the ban imposed on it.

“We have full faith that through our ongoing conversations with the authorities, we can reach a decision that would allow TikTok to continue serving the millions of content creators in Jordan who have found a home for creative expression on our platform," the app said in a statement.

The statement pointed out that millions in Jordan use TikTok.

The statement noted that “310,724 videos were deleted from different accounts in Jordan.”
