The Washington Post, citing informed sources, reported that the Israeli Occupation and Hamas have reached a preliminary agreement through US mediation, aiming to release dozens of women and children held captive in Gaza in exchange for a five-day ceasefire.

The newspaper mentioned that the release of captives may start within days and could lead to the first ceasefire in Gaza, provided that all parties cease hostilities for at least five days while the release of some captives in done in stages.

Aerial monitoring will be in place to ensure the cessation of fighting.

The White House denied Saturday information about any agreement mediated by the US between the occupation and Hamas that would allow the release of dozens of women and children held captive in the Gaza Strip in exchange for a five-day ceasefire.

White House National Security Council spokeswoman, Adrienne Watson, stated via X, formerly known as Twitter, in response to a report by The Washington Post about a preliminary agreement, "We have not reached an agreement yet, but we continue to work diligently to reach an agreement."

Earlier, Washington had confirmed that the ceasefire is linked to the release of captives in Gaza.
