In his address to the United States Congress on Thursday, President Joe Biden emphasized that a six-week ceasefire could aid in the release of captives and ease the overwhelming humanitarian crisis.

He highlighted the devastation in Gaza, where homes, neighborhoods, and entire cities have been demolished, leaving families devoid of basic necessities such as food, water, and medicine. Biden underscored the tragic plight of children who have been orphaned by the conflict and noted that around two million Palestinians are either enduring constant bombardment or have been forced to flee their homes.

Biden called on Netanyahu's government to allow more aid into Gaza and ensure that humanitarian workers are not targeted.

He emphasized that he will direct the US military to lead an urgent mission to establish a temporary maritime pier off the coast of Gaza.

"Tonight, I'm directing the US military to lead an emergency mission to establish a temporary pier in the Mediterranean on the coast of Gaza that can receive large shipments carrying food, water medicine and temporary shelters," he stated.

"A temporary pier will enable a massive increase in the amount of humanitarian assistance getting in Gaza."

While led by the US military, the operation will not put US troops on the ground in Gaza, he said.

"To the leadership of Israel I say this: Humanitarian assistance cannot be a secondary consideration or a bargaining chip. Protecting and saving innocent lives has to be a priority," Biden said.

Biden also defended his record as a supporter of the Israeli Occupation, telling lawmakers that "no one has a stronger record".
