Ismail Haniyeh, Hamas leader and Chairman of their Politburo, arrived in Tehran on Tuesday for talks with Iranian officials, a day after the UN Security Council called for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip - as reported by Iranian state media.

Haniyeh will meet with Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, Iran’s Foreign Minister, in addition to other senior officials, per IRNA news agency.

This is Haniyeh’s second visit to Iran since Oct. 7 and the start of “Operation Aqsa Typhoon”. His last one came in November when he met with Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of Iran.

Nasser Kanani, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson, described the recently adopted resolution by the UN Security Council as a "positive but insufficient step". He called for "effective measures to implement the resolution and the complete and permanent cessation of attacks".
