Reliable diplomatic sources cited by Agence France-Presse (AFP) said that the UN Security Council is set to vote on Thursday regarding the Palestinian Authority's bid for full membership in the United Nations.

Despite the challenging circumstances stemming from Israeli Occupation aggression against the Gaza Strip, the Palestinian Authority has urged the Security Council to reconsider its 2011 application, despite opposition from the United States.

Diplomatic insiders indicate that the vote on the Palestinian request will coincide with a Security Council session discussing the Gaza situation. It is anticipated that the US might exercise its veto power to block a positive recommendation for Palestine's membership, despite over 137 UN member states having recognized Palestine as a state.

In response, the Palestinian mission to the UN underscores the necessity of admitting Palestine as a UN member state, while emphasizing the importance of supporting the Algerian draft resolution advocating for this, which requires backing from UN Security Council members.
