The Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) announced today, Monday the resignation of the chief of the “Israeli” army Military Intelligence Directorate, after acknowledging his responsibility for failures during “Operation Aqsa Typhoon” which was carried out by Hamas’ military wing on Oct. 7, 2023.

“Major General Aharon Haliva has requested to step down from his position in coordination with the Chief of Staff, due to his leadership responsibility as head of the intelligence branch for the events of October 7,” the IOF said in a statement.

Haliva is the first senior official to resign from his position in the aftermath of Hamas’ surprise operation.

He will leave his post when a successor is appointed in an “organized and professional manner,” the statement added.

Haliva acknowledged his failure to prevent the unprecedented attack on “Israel” in his resignation letter.

“On Saturday, October 7th, 2023, Hamas launched a sudden and deadly attack against the State of Israel... The intelligence branch under my leadership did not rise to the level of the mission entrusted to us,” his letter said.

“I have carried that black day with me ever since, every day, every night. I will forever bear the terrible pain of the war.”
