The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) Thursday announced that Jordan has risen in the global and Arab internet speed rankings, according to the global internet speed measuring site Ookla.

According to a statement from the commission, Jordan ranked 33rd globally and fourth in the Arab world in internet speed averages, with fixed speeds (fiber and ADSL) reaching 142 megabits per second for the month of March this year.

The commission expects the average to continue to rise in the coming period due to an increase in the number of fiber internet subscriptions, especially in the central region provinces.

The commission added that this new ranking, which saw Jordan advance four places in the international rankings in a short period, reflects the outstanding efforts to achieve a developed telecommunications sector that competes with global and regional countries rapidly keeping up with the latest developments in this field.

It encourages companies through competitive spirit to offer distinguished internet services capable of placing Jordan among the advanced countries, as the telecommunications sector has become one of the most important sectors relied upon by other sectors in delivering their services.
